Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnosis
FAQs about Hypnosis
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an artificially induced state of relaxation and concentration in which the deeper part of the mind, the unconscious becomes accessible Hypnosis bypasses the conscious critical analytical mind.
Will you lose control?
No. As all hypnosis is self hypnosis this is not possible. The hypnotist does not have or needs any special "powers" he/she only needs knowledge.
Who can be hypnotised?
Anyone of average intelligence. It has been found that the more intelligent people are slightly more hypnotisable than those of average intelligence
Can anyone be hypnotised against their will?
No. It is worth stating that trance, the hypnotic state, is no different from guided imagery, visualisation, deep relaxation or any of the many types of therapy and relaxation exercises taught in to-days world.
Will you carry out all the suggestions given you by the hypnotherapist?
No. You will not do anything that is against your code of ethics. If asked to do something that violates your moral code you will either refuse to carry out the suggestion or spontaneously "awaken" from the trance state.
Will you come out of a trance?
Yes. There is no recorded instance of a person getting stuck in trance. Buddhists in Zen monasteries have over the centuries spent many years mediating in the pursuit of deeper and longer trance until they have a moment of enlightenment and become. the "Buddha".
