Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Let us first distinguish between hypnosis and hypnotherapy, Hypnosis is a trance state of mind sometimes defined as an altered state of consciousness, It is rather akin to day dreaming, reading a book, concentrating on TV, being "in the zone" in a sporting activity or maybe reliving or fantasying about an old flame.

Clinical hypnosis is the use of hypnosis for the treatment and relief of a variety of somatic and psychological symptoms, Therapy is applied after hypnosis has been used to induce a trance (hypnotic) state.

Some of the more usual conditions for which hypnotherapy is indicated include;

Breaking unwanted habits such as smoking, bed wetting, nail biting and many others. Pain management -- general neuromuscular aches and pains.

Helps to free people from phobias, compulsive disorders, emotional and sleep problems, inhibitions and other worries and anxieties.

Also proves effective for weight management, study, sporting performance, and a range of other personal problems.

The main criterion is that the presenting problem lies within the unconscious mind. Hypnosis has proved highly effective in communicating with the unconscious mind.

What is the unconscious mind? It is now generally accepted that we possess a mind made up of two states the conscious and the unconscious. One writer Dr. Cordelia Fine writing in her book "A MIND OF ITS OWN" writes that "your unconscious mind is smarter than you are, faster than you are, and more powerful than you. It may even control you. You will never know all its secrets."

If we can imagine the mind as a straight line continuum with the unconscious mind at one end and the conscious mind at the other. When we go into hypnotic trance we move from the very alert state to normal alertness to daydreaming and then into trance.

Most people can be hypnotised and respond to clinical hypnotherapy and it may succeed where more conventional methods of treatment have been slow to produce results. It is completely natural and safe. There are no harmful side effects.

When administered by a professionally trained and qualified hypnotherapist the benefits are usually long lasting and often permanent

Quit Smoking

You have made one of the most important decisions of your like - to save your life, when you decide to quit smoking, Smoking pollutes your lungs. Your lungs perform the most important function in your body without them you cannot breathe - you cannot live - It is essential for you to keep your lungs clean and full of fresh air so you can live and be healthy.

Look at the statistics; in 1998 deaths caused by smoking numbered 120,000 in 2001 only 20,170 died on the roads One in two long term smokers will die prematurely as a result of smoking - half of these in middle age.

Maybe you have tried to stop smoking by the use of willpower, nicotine patches, going cold turkey, herbal cigarettes or acupuncture, but have you tried hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy means the use of hypnosis for the treatment and relief of a variety of somatic and psychological symptoms.

It is completely natural and safe, there are no harmful side effects. When administered by a professionally trained and skilled hypnotherapist the benefits are usually long lasting and often permanent.

For smoking cessation the success rate is around 80%. It is estimated that 85% of all age groups will respond to clinical hypnotherapy. It is often successful when other, more conventional methods of treatment have failed.

Weight Management

We all have to eat, many of us overeat or fail to take adequate exercise to keep our weight in check, In 2002 70% of men and 63% of women were either over weight or obese.

One wonders why? Since World War 2 obesity have increased five times. Much of this increase can be due to changing life styles, encouraged by the use of technology and less exercise. Computers, TV, Internet communications and increase in car ownership have all made a significant contribution.

Overweight can lead to health risks these include:

Hypertriglyceridemia.

An increase of fat in the blood stream can raise the risk of deposits in the artery walls thus reducing blood flow through the arteries.

Hypertension.

High blood pressure. As with hypertriglyceridemia the fat builds up and the heart has to work harder to pump the blood through the veins and as with hypertriglyceridemia can lead to heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems.

Overweight people may suffer from sleep apnoea, breathing difficulties, degenerative joint disease, diabetes mellitus (type 2) and pains due to pressure from excess weight.

It is possible that the overweight person has tried one or more diets. If there was one really effective diet then it is unlikely that 95% who lose weight would not put it back on.

Also people who eat appropriately sometimes fail to lose weight or may even increase their weight. This can be explained by the energy input (calories) being higher than the energy output (lack of exercise).

Hypnotherapy can help with weight management. The unconscious mind can be programmed to reduce your urge to overeat. It can also be programmed to encourage you to take exercise, eat healthy foods and eliminate junk food from your menu.
